7 Tips to avoid stretch marks
style="text-align: center;">
Avoid stretch marks… a major concern for pregnant women. This is not surprising, since 9 out of 10 pregnant women see these small unsightly but natural and completely normal stretch marks appear during their pregnancy. However, it is always possible to prevent their appearance, or even reduce them, by following these few tips.
1-Eat well and sensibly
Try to eat as balanced as possible, eating foods that are good for you, your baby and your skin: eat everything and in reasonable amounts! Good nutrition will provide the skin with the lipids it needs (fatty acids) that make it up, a bit like “cement”. Essential fatty acids (omega-3 and -6) are particularly important because they are not made by our bodies: they must therefore be ingested through food! Consumed in moderation, these fatty acids preserve the strength and elasticity of the skin.
Vegetable butter, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, for breakfast or any other meal, on toast.
Two tablespoons of oil (walnut, rapeseed, olive, grape seed) with antioxidant properties, to season salads and other dishes.
These foods are rich in vitamin E, as are mussels, seeds, avocados, fatty fish (salmon, red mullet, etc.).
Fruits and vegetables are also rich in antioxidants.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, helping to regulate keratin (a natural substance that forms the surface layers of the skin, hair, and nails), and reducing the dry and rough appearance of the skin. It is mainly found in yellow and orange fruits and vegetables, but also in fats (butter, margarine, etc.).
2-Drink water
Water is absolutely necessary to cleanse your body and strengthen the cells. In addition, only a sufficient absorption of liquids can preserve the moisture content of the skin. Do you find it difficult to drink the recommended 1.5 liters of water per day? Don’t worry, you can also eat fruit and vegetables, which also contain water. Herbal teas can also be your allies, but beware of excessive coffee consumption, as it has a draining effect!
3-Sports Facts
Sport promotes blood circulation and improves the elasticity of the skin. Whether it’s yoga, brisk walking or swimming… the choice is wide!
4-Better to gain weight gradually
Sudden weight gain (followed by weight loss) naturally subjects the skin to extreme stress and promotes the formation of stretch marks. Not only pregnant women are concerned, but also people who are dieting or teenagers during puberty.
During your pregnancy, try to eat enough, but be careful (no need to double the quantities!) by listening to your feelings of satiety (which are different from feelings of gluttony): it is preferable to gain weight gradually and regularly.
5-Exfoliate your skin regularly
Nothing is better for your skin than a regular and gentle exfoliation, even on sensitive areas and stretch marks. Exfoliation eliminates dead cells and allows the skin to “breathe” better, thus promoting its regeneration capacity. It can also help reduce the visibility of existing stretch marks.
6-Hydrate and massage your skin
An essential factor in the prevention of stretch marks: regular care. Ideally every day, morning and evening. Focus on massaging areas prone to stretch marks, such as the stomach, buttocks, hips and legs. Opt for a nourishing massage oil, rich in essential fatty acids, which will improve the skin’s elasticity.
7-Protect yourself from the sun
If you stay in the sun for a long time, stretch marks will be even more visible. All the more reason not to forget to protect your skin with an adapted sunscreen, without chemical filters!
